i doubt im the first to come up with this method, but i thought of it while messing around with my 5x5. and to be honest all it is is a more complicated version of redux, but i thought id share it.

step 1: solve centers
step 2: create a cross. solve 4 tredges with a common color
step 3: finish f4l. create c/t pairs and insert them
step 4: ll. there are 4 more tredges to solve before you can use a traditional ll system, i used the parity alg, but i sure there are better ways to go about solving them.

alternative to step 3: instead of solving f4l using c/t pairs, you could insert single tredge pieces into the slots, although this would most likely be even slower.


i am aware of the fact that this method is very extraneous or has extraneous steps, causing it to need a high number of turns (making it slower). but i was just messing around with new solutions, hoping i blindly stumble upon a good one.

Sounds like a slow variant of K4 for the 5x5x5.

after doing a little bit of research on k4, this does seem to be a more restrictive version of k4 for the 5x5.

i am thinking about using a lbl approach to big cubes after discovering this and reading about k4.

That's step 6. You want 6 and 7. That's the text tut from the guy who created k4. You're not gunna get better than that.

Just keep in mind, k4 is open source. I use a freestyle LL. He uses algs. You could really do whatever for the LL. As long as it follows the basic idea.

Exactly. My only real algorithm is a J/Tperm. I use one or the other depending; I try to influence the edges as much as I can when I two-step the corners.

for the edges, do you use a redux style (pair an edge, and replace it with an unpaired edge, then fix centers)? or a more alg based style (not necessarily use algs, but use a less intuitive approach)?

Less intuitive.

For the K4 method, the whole first layer is already done. For the K5 (?) method, instead of finishing F3L, it's F4L. So the corners are already done. I just use and intuitive method for MODIFYING non-intuitive LBL algs.
